Sur les lieux, rien de notable, si ce n\u2019est un monument aux morts et un petit b\u00e2timent en brique rouge, perc\u00e9 d\u2019une lourde porte m\u00e9tallique.<\/p>\n<p>Celle-ci donne acc\u00e8s \u00e0 un site unique en Belgique : les carri\u00e8res de la Malogne, exploit\u00e9es entre 1876 et les ann\u00e9es 1920 afin d\u2019en extraire de la craie phosphat\u00e9e qui servait \u00e0 fabriquer des engrais.<\/p>\n<\/div><div class=\"fusion-clearfix\"><\/div><\/div><\/div><div class=\"fusion-layout-column fusion_builder_column fusion-builder-column-3 fusion_builder_column_1_1 1_1 Manceaux, son fils Nicolas et \u00c9ric Leblois, les trois fondateurs de l\u2019ASBL Projet Malogne, nos guides du jour.<\/p>\n<p>Casque viss\u00e9 sur la t\u00eate et lampe torche \u00e0 la main, ils nous poussent la porte donnant acc\u00e8s \u00e0 un v\u00e9ritable labyrinthe souterrain : 180 km de galeries, r\u00e9parties sous une surface de 67 ha. On y arrive apr\u00e8s une descente de 100 m\u00e8tres de long, inclin\u00e9e \u00e0 12%.<\/p>\n<p><em>\u00ab Ici nous descendons \u00e0 15 m sous terre et au maximum on peut descendre \u00e0 45 m, parce qu\u2019on suit la couche de craie phosphat\u00e9e, qui est inclin\u00e9e. \u00bb <\/em><\/p>\n<\/div><div class=\"fusion-clearfix\"><\/div><\/div><\/div><\/div><\/div><div style=\"--awb-text-color:#ffffff;\"><h2>Un labyrinthe construit \u00e0 l\u2019explosif<\/h2>\n<p>Apr\u00e8s quelques pas, Philippe nous arr\u00eate d\u00e9j\u00e0. <em>\u00ab Ici \u00e0 droite, vous voyez des petites galeries de 80 cm. On y pla\u00e7ait un bouchon et une fois que tout \u00e9tait en place, il n\u2019y avait plus qu\u2019\u00e0 faire exploser. Au d\u00e9but, \u00e7a allait, on avait deux usines autour qui sortaient 50 m3 d\u2019eau par jour. Mais comme nous sommes dans le Borinage, on a des mines de charbon en dessous, qui se sont progressivement affaiss\u00e9es depuis deux si\u00e8cles. L\u2019effondrement de ces galeries fait que la Malogne s\u2019est fractur\u00e9e, laissant passer l\u2019eau et le volume \u00e0 pomper a \u00e9t\u00e9 multipli\u00e9 par 1000 ! Ses reflets bleus, dus \u00e0 la puret\u00e9 de l\u2019eau, offrent un spectacle inoubliable.<\/p>\n<p>\u00c0 noter que l\u2019eau est toujours pomp\u00e9e pour maintenir le niveau de la nappe phr\u00e9atique afin d\u2019\u00e9viter que le village de Cuesmes ne soit inond\u00e9.<\/p>\n<h2><strong>Cr\u00e9tac\u00e9, Seconde<\/strong> Guerre<strong> mondiale\u2026<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p>Mais la Malogne, ce n\u2019est pas qu\u2019un h\u00e9ritage de l\u2019exploitation mini\u00e8re. <em>\u00ab Elle sert aussi de refuge aux chauves-souris. En p\u00e9riode d\u2019hibernation, le site h\u00e9berge plus ou moins 1 500 individus. C\u2019est la deuxi\u00e8me plus grande r\u00e9serve de Belgique. \u00bb<\/em> Ce qui vaut d\u2019ailleurs \u00e0 une partie du site d\u2019\u00eatre class\u00e9e zone Natura 2000.<\/p>\n<p>Le site est aussi l\u2019occasion de plonger dans l\u2019histoire terrestre, comme lorsqu\u2019on passe devant une faille de 65 millions d\u2019ann\u00e9es et qui nous rappelle que l\u2019endroit \u00e9tait bien diff\u00e9rent \u00e0 l\u2019\u00e9poque. <em>\u00ab On a du mal \u00e0 imaginer qu\u2019il y avait la mer ici \u00bb, <\/em>note \u00c9ric Leblois.<\/p>\n<p>Des s\u00e9diments, ou encore des fossiles d\u2019animaux du cr\u00e9tac\u00e9 incrust\u00e9s dans les murs, nous le rappellent.<\/p>\n<p>Un peu plus loin, les mines prennent soudain de la hauteur, donnant l\u2019impression qu\u2019on a voulu y b\u00e2tir une cath\u00e9drale souterraine.<\/p>\n<p>Durant la Seconde Guerre mondiale, l\u2019endroit aurait servi d\u2019abri \u00e0 la population civile lors des bombardements de Mons. Le site r\u00e9unissait toutes les conditions : le noir absolu, une temp\u00e9rature constante et l\u2019absence de courant d\u2019air \u00bb,<\/em> explique Philippe Manceaux.<\/p>\n<p>De cette exploitation subsistent des cimeti\u00e8res de bouteilles, qui contenaient le myc\u00e9lium, et des restes de chaussures, port\u00e9es ici-bas par les \u00e9leveurs.<\/p>\n<p>Faire conna\u00eetre le site, le pr\u00e9server et documenter son histoire sous toutes ses facettes, c\u2019est ce \u00e0 quoi veulent s\u2019atteler nos trois comp\u00e8res, entour\u00e9s de diff\u00e9rents organismes scientifiques. D\u2019\u00e9normes crat\u00e8res sont alors apparus dans un champ.<\/p>\n<p>Cela ne signifie pas pour autant que les 67 ha de la Malogne sont dangereux.<em> \u00ab La Malogne n\u2019est pas dangereuse si on la conna\u00eet. \u00bb<\/em> rassure Philippe Manceaux.<\/p>\n<p>Mais \u00e0 certains endroits, la Malogne peut \u00eatre p\u00e9rilleuse. <em>\u00ab Elle a \u00e9t\u00e9 exploit\u00e9e plusieurs fois, des piliers ont \u00e9t\u00e9 amincis et des sols et plafonds gratt\u00e9s jusqu\u2019\u00e0 la limite par des concessionnaires qui savaient tr\u00e8s bien que cela finirait par s\u2019effondrer \u00bb,<\/em> poursuit \u00c9ric Leblois. L\u2019eau \u00e9rode aussi certains piliers.
